FOTOWEEK DC YOUTH CONTEST

CAMERAS FOR KIDS

FotoWeek DC wants to involve Washington-area kids of all ages in our celebration of photography. That’s why we launched the Cameras for Kids program in 2008, distributing 50 digital cameras to local schools in partnership with the DC Public Schools. School art departments around the city shared the cameras with their students, giving children a “snapshot” of the artistic and journalistic power of photography.

In 2009, we expanded the program to include school-based and community workshops, as well as a guest speakers program, in partnership with Critical Exposure.

Students who participate in the Cameras for Kids programs are encouraged to submit their work to FotoWeek DC’s annual Youth Contest; winners will be announced and exhibited in November 2010.
