About FotoWeek DC

FotoWeek DC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that celebrates the power of photography and its limitless possibilities through world-class events and ongoing community-building platforms. Utilizing everything from grassroots initiatives to public/private partnerships to compelling lectures, exhibitions and juried competitions, FotoWeek DC inspires, educates and informs photography enthusiasts worldwide during its annual festival--and now year round as well!

Here are some of the many exciting programs sponsored by FotoWeek DC:

Exhibitions

An emphasis on high-caliber work and contemporary themes distinguish FotoWeek DC’s exhibitions. Awards competition winners are spotlighted in strategic sites around the city, and exhibitions with social and political significance are brought in to expose the region to global photojournalism and fine art.

Projections

NightGallery illuminates the facades of major DC architecture with digital video projections featuring a dazzling display of images from awards competitions, special exhibitions, and museum archives. Projection sites become focal points for viewers to experience on a grand scale the ephemeral magic that comes when light meets surface.

Lectures & Workshops

Renowned photojournalists, fine art and commercial photographers, curators, technological experts, gallerists, photo editors, and academics are among those who share their knowledge through FotoWeek DC. From multimedia presentations to war photographer panels to intense lectures highlighting innovative techniques, there is a diverse array to suit every taste.

Portfolio Reviews

Virtually selling out each year during the festival, the portfolio review sessions provide emerging photographers with an opportunity to have their work reviewed by an incredible lineup of professionals from around the country. Curators, educators, photo editors, and other experts from the fields of commercial, fine art, photojournalism, multimedia, and documentary join with prominent photographers to offer frank appraisals, invaluable business connections, and key advice for projects and books in progress.

Community Building

Central to FotoWeek DC’s mission is outreach to disadvantaged youth, offering children an opportunity to experiment with the artistic and journalistic tool of photography. By providing a positive, supportive, and educational environment to underprivileged children, the Cameras for Kids program fosters self-esteem, dignity, pride, and community and civic engagement.  Among the components of this expansive initiative is free digital camera distribution, school-based workshops, and lecture series.
